Factors

What makes the price vary

Number of pieces

A 5-piece set (with an ash bucket) requires more material and forging time than a 3-piece set.

Finish

A flue-rated paint rated to 600°C costs more to apply than simple oil-blackening, but tolerates direct contact with embers.

Steel thickness

A poker meant for daily, intensive use needs a thicker section than a decorative piece used rarely.

Ornate or plain

Forged scrollwork on the stand or handles adds forging time, billed accordingly.

Height and dimensions

A taller stand (up to 75cm) or longer tools require more material than a compact model — confirmed based on your fireplace.

Antique or contemporary style

An antique-style reproduction (scrollwork, more ornate proportions) follows the same grid as the standard set, see our dedicated page.

What you'll find elsewhere

Market reference points gathered in 2026 from mass-market retailers (subject to change) — not this workshop's prices. They mainly show the gap between an entry-level thin-steel set and a solid, custom-forged piece.

Entry-level sets (4 or 5 pieces, thin steel, standard high-temperature paint) run roughly €35 to €50 at DIY retailers — for example the Dixneuf Brio around €44.90, or ManoMano 5-piece sets between €34.99 and €101.63. Mid-range sets run around €70 to €100 (Le Marquier Elaia ~€71.90, Devaux Atole ~€99.90, sometimes labelled "made in France"). Secondhand pieces sell for €10 to €70 depending on condition. No mass-market retailer publishes a price for a solid, hand-forged set with a flue-rated finish — this segment remains structurally a quote-based market, not a catalog-price one.

On the separate antiques segment, a genuinely old piece most often trades between €240 and over €2,000 depending on age, material and condition — a different market from a new reproduction, see our antique-style fireplace tool set page.

Dimensions and price

Dimensions matter less for price than piece count or finish, but they do factor in: a compact set (stand around 65cm, tools around 50cm, close to an entry-level retail model) needs less material than a larger one (stand up to 75cm, tools up to 72-75cm, close to the fullest 5-piece models observed on the market). See our fireplace tool set page for the detail of dimensions observed on real models.

Frequently asked questions

What we get asked most often

Why does a forged set cost more than a mass-market one?

Most mass-market sets are made of thin steel, sometimes coated with a high-temperature paint capped at 200°C — not a solid, hand-forged piece with a finish designed for direct contact with embers.

Does the price include delivery?

To be confirmed in your quote, depending on your address and chosen delivery method.

Can I choose a different finish than the one shown for a configuration?

Yes — every piece-count/finish combination is confirmed in your quote; these grids are only starting reference points.

Is the quote free and non-binding?

Yes — requesting a quote is free and non-binding; the workshop replies with a first estimate within 48h.

Is a secondhand antique piece cheaper?

Not necessarily — on the antiques market, old sets most often trade between €240 and over €2,000 depending on age, material and condition, with no fixed grid. See our antique-style fireplace tool set page for the detail.

Do larger dimensions raise the price much?

Yes, to a lesser extent than piece count or finish: a taller stand and longer tools need slightly more raw material, to be quoted based on your exact dimensions.
